In my opinion, Anderson's SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL ranks with
Gus Hasford's THE SHORT TIMERS (the basis of Kubrick's FULL
METAL JACKET) and Robert Stone's DOG SOLDIERS (the basis of
the movie WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN) as the best novels about the
American experience in Vietnam. I can't recommend SYMPATHY
enough, although you will feel like having a stiff drink or
two after you've finished it.
