I just finished reading "Midnight Wind," the lead novelette
in the August 1981 issue of MSMM. The big redhead finds
himself mixed up in murder at a seedy motel in the Florida
Keys. You've got your backwoods types, your beautiful babes,
your . . . ninjas! This is a dandy James Reasoner tale that
plays off a couple of others that James write about the Black
Lotus, though she doesn't appear personally in this one. A
nice pulp feel to the whole thing, and I'm sure that Shayne
is true to the Halliday character.
