Dave asked: "Anything from the discussions as to people's
thoughts on the future
direction of noir? Anything from the publisher's point
of view?"
The short answer is, no. However J. D. Rhoades says that his
first, still unpublished, book was a mystery with humor. He
couldn't get anyone interested. The one he sold to St.
Martin's and that I bought is supposedly very dark, so maybe
that tells us something about what's selling. Or maybe it
doesn't. Hard to tell from just one example.
New directions? Well, Ken Bruen said that he and Jason Starr
are collaborating on a book. That should be interesting. They
didn't say what it was about.
Ken Bruen also mentioned a supposed new trend referred to as
"noir lite." The panelists didn't respond favorably to the
term.
