Thanks, Mark & Jim, for your responses...
Mark: DEVIL MAY CARE is actually one that I was
looking to read, soon. Glad to see that my gut choice has
some merit! And BADGE OF EVIL is in my sights, too, for the
very reasons you cite.
Jim: Great, detailed breakdown... I'm halfway
thru GUILTY BYSTANDER now, and wholeheartedly agree with your
praise of it.
While I haven't read the book 711 - OFFICER NEEDS
HELP, I did catch the film inspired by the book, WARNING
SHOT, which was well done. Will be interesting to compare the
two, once I get the book.
PLAY LIKE YOU'RE DEAD is, by sheer luck, the one
WM hardcover that I own, thus far. I realize that both 711
and PLYD are Bob Wade-only Masterson works, but I don't
consider that a detriment in any way, as Wade has stated that
he and Miller worked at each becoming balanced contributors
to their WM writings, rather than Specialists (such as one
concentrating on Plot, the other on Character). The quality
of Bob's stand-alone WM work suggests that their plan was
successful.
I was originally tempted to start my Max Thursday
readings with DEADLY WEAPON, as it's a "prequel" to the MT
sextet, proper...but went with GB, in the end.
Didn't know HAMMER IN HIS HAND's plot, and
appreciate your insights re: SotL -- not to mention your
keeping Spoilers out of your description. ;)
Intriguing choices, guys --- hope more folks will
add their 2-cents!!
Best an' all,
