When you include women "co-protagonists" you've really thrown the doors wide open. There are many prominent women in that category. Nick's got Nora in The Thin Man. Frank wouldn't amount to squat without Cora to give him the fever in Cain's Postman. Tons of femmes fatale in noir, Amy, and many rank high in prominence.
