For the record, while Huston may have expanded, or used
metaphorically
(getting a broken ankle that ends your career could be taken
as "getting caught" even if he was safe on base), the meaning
of the term "caught stealing" in Hank's backstory, its use as
the title refers to when he is
"caught stealing" in the present. Actually, it's inexact
there, too. While everyone is after him because they believe
they have "caught him stealing" something very valuable, for
the longest time he doesn't even know what they are looking
for that he is supposed to have in this great debut using a
wrong man plot.
